Growing Healthy, Strong Nails: What To Do

by Mario Medina

For some people, growing long and strong fingernails is not something that comes easily to them. If you're one of those whose nails never seem to grow and break or split often, you may not think there's anything to be done. Luckily, the following pointers may be able to help you grow healthy nails that you're proud to show off.

Examine Your Diet

Overall, the first thing you should concern yourself with when trying to make your nails grow and remain strong is to look at your diet. If you are not eating in a healthy way, your nails aren't the only thing that will suffer. Make every effort to have lots of greens, fruits, dairy foods, and lean meats. In particular, look for foods that are high in vitamin B7, also called biotin. Some studies have shown that biotin can help grow and strengthen nails. Some foods that contain this nutrient include broccoli and eggs.

Stop Using Acetone

If you're someone who loves painting their nails, you've probably got a bottle of acetone nail polish remover in your home somewhere. You may not ever consider that the acetone is awful for your nails. This flammable, caustic liquid can take the nail polish off, but will often leave your nails dry and weak, making growth less of a possibility. Instead, look for polish remover products that do not contain acetone.

Moisturize and Massage

Whether you are using acetone products or not, you might notice that your nail beds and cuticles are somewhat dry. To help encourage growth and strength, make it a part of your daily beauty regimen to moisturize and massage your nail beds and cuticles. Massaging the nailbeds provides better blood circulation, which encourages growth, and moisturizing with a hand lotion will prevent nails from breaking off.

Beware of Shampoo Effects

One of the best things you can do to protect your nails is to pay attention to the effects your shampoo might have on your nails after repeated washings. If you use an anti-oil shampoo, as the shampoo strips oils from your hair cuticles, it could be stripping necessary oils from your nails as well. If you see your nail health deteriorate as the result of a shampoo, consider a new one or be extra vigilant about moisturizing and caring for your nails.

As a result of the tips laid out above, you might start to like the way your fingernails look. Talk with local retailers about nail growth products you may also be able to use. Contact a company like Miracle Med to learn more.
