Removing Hair From Your Face

by Mario Medina

If you are a woman, and you have noticed unsightly hairs on your chin or above your upper lip, you may become very upset and not know how to deal with the situation. As we age, hair may grow in places they are not normally seen, making them a nuisance that you will want to eliminate for cosmetic reasons. Here are some ways you can remove these hairs safely, and some of the benefits and disadvantages to each method.

Plucking

Using a pair of tweezers to pluck out any hairs on your face is an option many take because it does not involve chemicals. The unfortunate part of doing this, however, is that the hair will continue to grow back again and again, making it necessary to upkeep the process. If you wait too long to pluck, you will have small wiry hairs grow in, sometimes darker than the original ones you had plucked.

Bleaching

Using bleach on your upper lip or chin will make darker hair blend in with the rest of your skin. This is a quick process that has favorable results, but it will not eliminate the hair altogether. You will still be able to see them when your face is in certain lighting. Bleaching may irritate your skin, making you risk having a undesirable looking rash. Always do a test on a small patch of skin away from your face before trying to bleach hair on the upper lip or chin.

Shaving

Some people opt to shave off hair from their face, but it makes it come back in thicker and darker when it grows. This is the least favorable method for women and should be avoided if possible.

Waxing

Using a hair wax removal kit is another option that can be done at home or in a salon. This method involves heating up wax to place on the affected areas, placing an adhesive over the wax, and ripping the hairs out of your face along with the tape. It is slightly painful but leaves you with smooth skin that will last for several weeks. There is a risk of irritation from the chemicals in the wax.

Depilatories

Placing a cream on the hair you want removed can help disintegrate them. Using a special facial depilatory is recommended, as depilatories used on legs and bikini areas may be too harsh, leading to unsightly red markings. Other than the risk of skin irritation, depilatories are relatively safe and will keep hair at bay for about a week.

Laser Hair Removal

If you want to remove hair so it does not grow in as quickly or as often, laser hair removal is best. This procedure is done in a doctor's office (or sentences like Bijou Medispa) using concentrated lighting to destroy hair right down to the hair follicle. The procedure is usually done over several sessions. You will need to hold off on removing hair for several weeks before treatment so the procedure works properly.

The results will allow you to rest easy knowing the hair that you had removed may grow in very slowly in the future, or perhaps not at all. Hair that does grow will be light and thin. The more sessions you have in removing hair, the better chance you have of little regrowth.
